The Tackle Program or (PLA) Prior Learning Assessment refers to the assessment of knowledge and skills developed outside the classroom. Through this process the college awards college credits for the student's ability to demonstrate knowledge of a subject area based upon learning outcomes identified in the course syllabus.
Student knowledge is assessed by a portfolio review or a comprehensive exam developed by the department. Further instruction relative to portfolio development can be obtained by contacting the Distance Education Center at the college.
Students involved in the program benefit by their ability to accelerate the completion of required courses needed to complete the requirements of their selected degree. Also, the cost per credit is one third the cost of a regular college credit. For more information on the program please make an appointment with the Distance Education Center by calling 1-800-377-5222 ext. 7559.
