 Admissions - Requirements

First-Time Freshmen

A graduate of an accredited high school or a person holding a high school equivalency diploma will be admitted to the college.

Students will take LCCC's college placement test. The test results will determine the student's level of placement in college courses. Test results may also require the student to enter the developmental studies program for preparatory work.

Special Student

An individual who has not graduated from high school may be admitted as a special student.

After successfully completing thirty hours of study, the student may petition for a Commonwealth Secondary School Diploma awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and the credits earned at the College will also apply toward an associate degree, certificate, or diploma program at Luzerne County Community College.

Early Admission

Students who have successfully completed their high school requirements at the end of the junior year may apply for Early Admission. These students must submit an official high school transcript for review and must schedule a personal interview with an Admissions representative. They must submit a letter of permission from their high school principal indicating approval from the Secondary School for consideration for admission. A letter of recommendation from their high school counselor must also be submitted.

An admissions committee will assess the qualifications of applicants and notify the students of the admissions decision.

Re-Admission

A student who has previously studied at Luzerne County Community College and desires to return for part-time or full-time study after an absence of one semester or more must apply for re-admission. There is no application fee for readmission.

Sponsorship

Luzerne County Community College does not participate in a sponsorship program for the purpose of sponsoring students to other community colleges. The college does accept students from other community colleges in a sponsorship program.

Transfer - Advanced Standing

Luzerne County Community College will accept advanced standing credits earned at another college or university.

A student entering from another college or university should request the institution from which he/she is transferring to forward a transcript of credits to the Registrar of Luzerne County Community College. Full credit will be considered for work taken at another college or university, provided the course applies toward the program of study being pursued at LCCC. Only those credits earned at this College will be used in computing the student's grade-point average.

Acceptable credits from another college or university may be applied to a major field of concentration at this College to the extent that acceptance of these credits would not preclude further work in the major field of study. Luzerne County Community College can accept up to one-half of the credit requirements for a degree or certificate at this College.

Credits for Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Developmental Psychology will be accepted in transfer to a Health Sciences Program only if they are completed within 5 years of entry. All required science courses must be 4 credits and have a lab component. A grade of C or better is required in each course. Anatomy and Physiology I and II must be completed at the same college for acceptance.
