| Luzerne County Community College surveyed regional fire, police and EMS departments from nine counties for input on the LCCC Public Safety Institute. Of the respondent fire and EMS departments, 97.5% said they would send students and 100% law enforcement department indicated their desire to send students. The respondents also listed suggested classes they felt would be beneficiary to their departments. LCCC has been meeting with emergency responders in the region for additional input on the design of the facility and the curriculum needed.
"This is a great opportunity for the emergency services in our region. We will now have the ability to standardize training utilizing a fixed facility which would provide more realistic training for the first responders in Northeastern Pa."
James Wills, President, Luzerne County Fire & Rescue Association and firefighter - Municipality of Kingston
"Until I left this area, I really didn't realize how much we lacked in fire training capabilities. As both a career firefighter and a Pennsylvania Local Level Instructor, a training center at LCCC would be a tremendous addition to Northeastern Pennsylvania."
William Owens, FDNY
"September 11, 2001 changed how America thinks about keeping our communities safe and secure. The tragic events of that day helped us understand that local emergency service personnel, both volunteer and professional units, need the best resources and training available to ensure the safety of our communities. A regional public safety facility will deliver those resources, and I can think of no better institution to provide this quality training than Luzerne County Community College."
