COUNSELING AND ADVISING CENTER ACTIVITIES

 ADVANCE EARLY REGISTRATION

Orientation session in the Spring/Summer for incoming freshman. This early registration is offered to incoming freshman students who apply early and have completed file (High school record and ACCUPLACER testing completed).

 FRESHMAN ORIENTATION

Offered in August and January of each year to acquaint incoming freshman and transfer students with the college community, programs, policies and services.


REGISTRATION ACTIVITIES FOR ENROLLED STUDENTS

 REGISTRATION GROUP COUNSELING SERVICES

Each semester the students will be notified via mail informing them of the time frames for scheduling their appointments.

 INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION APPOINTMENTS

Often times students have very specific and personal concerns that maybe better addressed with an individual appointment.

 SELF ADVISEMENT

Enrolled students are offered a self-advisement option. Students must request the student schedule worksheet, advising form and master schedule from their counselor. By choosing this option the student accepts total responsibility for their course selections. *Newly admitted freshman, re-admits, transfer, and probation are not permitted to utilize this option. 

 REFERRAL SYSTEM

Faculty members refer students to counseling who may be having academic difficulties or personal problems that may be interfering with their academic success. Counselors will then contact student for an individual appointment to discuss their situation and assist them in resolving or dealing with the problem area.

 INDIVIDUAL APPOINTMENTS

Students can self-refer to a counselor for academic of personal concerns.

 SEMINARS

Small group sessions are conducted on: 

  • Stress management
  • Test taking
  • Self-empowerment
  • Assertive training

  • I just feel lost and confused, who can I talk to?
  • How does dropping below full-time status (12 credits) affect my financial aid?

  • Where can I find tutoring assistance?
  • What is an articulation agreement?
  • How can I cope with these stressful feelings?
  • Where can I get information on student loans of scholarships?
