The Adult Learners' Training and Assistance (ALTA) Program has free classes to help adults improve their basic reading, writing, and math skills; prepare to take a high school equivalency test such as GED or HiSet; and increase their English language skills (ESL).
We are now taking names and addresses of students interested in receiving information about our program and the enrollment process. At orientation, students take placement tests to help determine the correct level of instruction at which to start their studies. Students meet with staff members individually to select the appropriate class placement. The orientations are held at the start of each session, approximately one week prior to enrolling into classes.
Classes are held at the off-campus sites of Luzerne County Community College in Wilkes-Barre and Hazleton. Days and times vary by site. The classes are free and instructional materials are available for students to use during classes.
If you are interested in just taking the actual GED tests on your own, please visit http://www.luzerne.edu/coned/ged.jsp
