2011-2012 FAFSA-
It is time to renew your FAFSA for the 2011-2012 academic year. Please go to the FAFSA website at www.fafsa.gov as soon as possible to ensure you are prepared for your Fall 2011-2012 tuition. The deadline to have all paperwork submitted to our office is June 30, 2011. Remember that May 1, 2011 is the deadline for Pennsylvania residents that are applying for PHEAA State Grants.
Summer 2011 Instructions-
The Summer Financial Aid Application forms are now available for download. You can print at the bottom of our website: www.luzerne.edu/financialaid. You are also required to complete the 2010-2011 FAFSA, but we recommend you complete the 2011-2012 FAFSA as well.
IMPORTANT: If you are a currently enrolled student for the fall 2010 or spring 2011 semesters, Summer financial aid cannot be processed until academic progress has been reviewed (no exceptions). You may be required to make payment on Summer classes should your bill be due before aid can be processed. If you are aid eligible, you will be reimbursed up to the amount of aid eligibility. Please only complete the LCCC Internal Summer 2011 Financial Aid Application AFTER you are registered so we can process registered students in a timely fashion.
If you are a VISITING STUDENT (non-degree seeking at LCCC), you are not eligible for financial aid in any semester. This also includes Federal Direct Stafford and Federal Parent PLUS Loans since they are a form of financial aid. Your payment option besides cash, check, or credit card (if you are enrolled in at least 6 credits) is to apply for a Private/Alternative loan which is subject to credit worthiness. A list of private/alternative loans is available under the financial aid portion of the College's website under "types of aid" as "alternative loans."

Important Notice from the Financial Office to the Campus Community
Effective 2009-2010 Summer Sessions Federal Stafford/Parent PLUS Loans
On March 25, 2010, the United States Congress passed the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act (SAFRA). SAFRA eliminates the Federal Education Loan Program (FFELP) that LCCC has participated in for many years. The New Law mandates that all students and/or parents that previously borrowed through this FFELP program and wish to secure a Federal Stafford and/or Federal Parent PLUS loan must complete a NEW Master Promissory Note through the Federal Direct Loan Program (FDLP).
Luzerne County Community College has decided to participate in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Program beginning with the 2009-2010 Summer Sessions and ensure that the lending process will remain as smooth and easy as possible for our students and their parents. The Direct Loan Program is where all loans are provided through the U.S. Department of Education and guaranteed by the federal government.
Please note any returning student that received a Federal Stafford Loan and/or Federal Parent PLUS Loan for the fall and spring of 2009-2010 or a new degree seeking student attending for the summer 2009-2010 wish to obtain a federal loan for this summer regardless if that they completed a master promissory through the FFLEP program will be required to complete a NEW MPN through the Federal Direct Loan Program.
Please refer to the financial aid section of the website under Federal Direct Stafford and Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan program for further instructions on how to apply and FAQ’s regarding the Federal Direct Loan Program.
Sincerely,
The Financial Aid Staff
Luzerne County Community College
