Every day, brave men and women work hard at saving countless numbers of lives stopping fires, capturing criminals and providing vital emergency health care to those in need.
Police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians may have been born with attributes like bravery, caring, and strength, but they still need to hone their life-saving skills. These skills are necessary to provide all of us with the protection and homeland security we rely on every day. Public safety requires in-depth training in a safe environment with effective, modern facilities and real world tools and resources. |
| Training resources currently available to the citizens of Northeastern Pennsylvania are limited. Basic fire, EMS and police training facilities such as classrooms, drill grounds, and basic training props are nearly nonexistent. Training grounds, realistic emergency scenarios and hands-on training are needed for technical field training activities such as live fire training, specialty rescue, high-angle work, emergency vehicle driving and heavy equipment operation.
Luzerne County Community College Public Safety Training Institute is designed to provide the emergency training our region needs. The institute will focus on technical field training, the physical hands on training needed to handle emergency situations. Firefighting, search and rescue, lethal weapons training, and emergency vehicle maneuvers are all intended to make sure personnel know appropriate skills, to create a safe and productive work environment, and to reduce costly workplace injuries. Training courses will be designed to encourage students to make the right decisions in possible life-and-death situations. This facility will be able to train more than 4,000 fire fighters, emergency medical technicians, and police officers as well as enhance LCCCs credit curriculum for its Criminal Justice, EMT and Fire Science programs. |
