
Luzerne County Community College Celebrates Surgical Technology Graduates at Pinning Ceremony
Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) proudly honored its graduating Surgical Technology students at a special pinning ceremony, recognizing their hard work, dedication, and readiness to enter the vital and demanding field of surgical technology.*
The ceremony, held on the College's main campus on Friday August 8, 2025, brought together students, faculty, family, and friends to celebrate this milestone. The event began with a welcome from Sondra Ferraro '12, Director of Surgical Technology, followed by opening remarks from Dr. Kimberly Olgzewski, Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Holly Pilcavage, Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success, delivered an inspiring address, praising the graduates' perseverance and the life-changing impact they are poised to make. "Surgical technologists are truly the heartbeat of the operating room," Pilcavage said. "They are skilled professionals who assist surgeons with precision, helping to save and improve lives every day. The impact these graduates are about to make in our community is both profound and immediate."
Pilcavage reflected on the gratitude expressed by student speaker Lacey Souders, who recognized not only her peers but also the faculty and mentors who guided them. "That recognition truly resonated with me and underscored how vital every part of the learning experience is," she added.
Sondra Ferraro also addressed the graduates, emphasizing the discipline and teamwork that define their profession. "Our Surgical Technology students are trained to be calm, focused, and precise?ready to take on a critical role in the operating room," Ferraro said. "They have mastered sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and decision-making. They have not only learned the science of surgery but the art of anticipating the surgeon's next move."
Following the remarks, Ferraro, Edwina Soreth, and Amanda Ruckel '15 led the Introduction and Pinning of the Class of 2025:
