Luzerne County Community College's Public Safety Training Institute is pleased to announce the option of training packages for Fire, Rescue, and EMScompanies/departments. With the development of these new packages, it allows LCCC training to be more affordable and allows us to better serve your department/company. The packages also allow you,as a customer,to customize training for your specific needs. Annual package fees shown are for calendar year 2020.

Exterior Fire Fighter

This class is the third level which upon successful completion an entry level firefighter will be able to identify and utilize basic knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to exterior fire ground operations This course will show new firefighters the fire ground operation including SCBA, fire behavior, building construction, fire extinguishers, forcible entry, ladders, and fire streams/hose line advancement. Student will need to bring pen/pencil, notebook, Essentials of Fire fighting/skills book and all other equipment as needed. Prerequisites: ELFG, NIMS 700, student must be 14 years of age at start of class.

Hazardous Materials Operations

The goal of this class is to provide the emergency responder with the training needed with the skills to comply with NFPA 472 Chapter 6.2. This course will provide training for first responders that respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances as part of the initial response for protecting nearby persons, property, and the environment. Personnel are trained to respond in a defensive fashion to contain the release from a safe distance and to keep it from spreading and prevent exposures. An understanding of basic hazard and risk assessment, how to select and use proper personnel protective equipment, basic hazardous materials terms, basic control, containment and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources and the PPE available, basic decontamination procedures and termination procedures. Student supplies: Pen/pencil, notebook and equipment as stated by instructor.

Firefighter 1 Certification

To be certified as a Fire Fighter I, a candidate MUST have demonstrated his/her ability to attack and extinguish an interior structural fire operating as a member of a team. The candidate MUST attach a certificate showing successful completion of entry level fire training or any formal career fire academy certificate and live fire training. Should the link not work, please go to the PA State Fire Academy www. osfc.pa.gov to fill out your Fire Fighter 1 Certification Application. Interior Fire Fighter

This entry level course is the 4th level in the curriculum. This class is designed to introduce new firefighters to interior fire ground operations including SCBA, Search and Rescue Procedures, firefighter survival, ventilation, utility and loss control, origin and cause and fire control/suppression. Once successfully completed an entry level firefighter shall be able to identify and utilize basic knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to interior fire ground operations. Student supplies: pen/pencil, notebook, necessary equipment, Essentials of Firefighting Book/Skills book. Prerequisites: ELEF, HMO and student must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
