Luzerne County Community College Trailblazers Basketball: Coach Ron Strothers Revives Summer Skills & Drills Camp

Excitement is in the air as Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) prepares to host a Skills & Drills Basketball Summer Camp this June, marking the return of such an event for the first time in many years. Under the leadership of Trailblazers Head Coach Ron Strothers, the camp offers a unique opportunity for young athletes to develop their basketball skills while experiencing the vibrant environment of LCCC.*

The camp will take place from June 16 to June 20, 2025, at the James T. Atherton Gymnasium on the LCCC main campus. Designed for boys and girls in grades 5-8, the camp will focus on essential basketball skills and techniques, including ball handling, shooting, passing, and competitive drills like 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 matches.

Coach Strothers, a former player at LCCC and an experienced coach, expressed his enthusiasm for bringing the camp back to life. "I am incredibly excited to be hosting this basketball camp," Strothers said. "It's important to introduce younger athletes to the game in a fun and supportive environment. We want to teach them how to play basketball the right way while also getting them exposed to the campus and our community."

The five-day camp will include a variety of activities such as skill stations, fun games, and a campus tour, providing participants with a comprehensive basketball experience. Each camper will receive a lunch voucher and a camp t-shirt for their participation, all for a fee of $150.

"This is our first step in strengthening the program and getting back into the community," Strothers shared. "We want to engage the local youth and their families, show them what LCCC has to offer, and inspire them to continue pursuing their passion for basketball."

Strothers also reflected on his own experiences as a camper in his youth, stating, "I remember attending summer camps where I got to meet players from different areas and how influential those experiences were. I want our campers to have that same opportunity for growth and enjoyment."

With the gym doors opening at 8:30 AM and the camp officially starting at 9:00 AM and concluding at 2:00 PM each day, families are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible. This upcoming summer camp is not just a chance to enhance basketball skills; it's a celebration of community and the spirit of the game, paving the way for a new generation of players inspired by the Trailblazers program at LCCC.
