Position Title: GED/ABE Instructor

Position Classification: Adjunct Faculty

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  1. Education - Bachelor's Degree in education or related field required. Experience in working with nontraditional adult students.

  2. Experience - Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and to work cooperatively in stressful situations. Experience in teaching, tutoring, or providing educational services to youth. Knowledge of popular education and/or critical pedagogy. Working knowledge of GED testing. Working knowledge of administering and interpreting results of standardized educational assessments. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with persons of diverse educational, cultural and economic backgrounds.

    Position Responsibilities:

    Utilizes a variety of teaching techniques to increase program participants basic skills and provides GED preparation/instruction in a learning environment customized to various learning styles and abilities. Assumes responsibility for the development and on-going enhancement of the basic skills and GED preparation curriculum. Duties and responsibilities: Organize and develop curriculum framework for the GED classes. Administer TABE test to assess students grade level. Instruct, individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as popular education and/or critical pedagogy. Monitor the students progress and maintain complete and accurate progress reports of students. Provide information, guidance, and assistance in students registration process for the official GED examination. Provide supportive services to enrolled participants to facilitate their academic success, such as assisting them in identifying and setting goals based on needs and interests. Develop positive relationships and maintain regular contact and communication with staff, coordinating education and employment-related information, referral and services, keeping informed of relevant services available. Assist on other special projects as needed. Additional Information: Hours per Week: 8-10 hours Tentative Work Schedule - Evenings-two nights/week.
